News Summary (w/c May 24th)
- Flying all Week: Following the flyable weather for all of last week, this week's weather forecast suggests the run of flyable days is set to continue into next week (and even beyond!).
- Borders BPCup (28-31 May):
With a forecast currently promising a full four flyable days, this year's Scottish Open/Borders BP Cup offers a great opportunity for Scottish pilots to get a taste of competition in a safe and relaxed event. You will have the chance to fly for four days with some very good pilots in the Scottish hills and then listen to them review the good/bad of the day in the evening tracklog session. Of course, you can always get involved as a volunteer - contact Dave Thomson for details.
- Lambing - Be Aware:
Lambing season is ongoing so please continue to fly responsibly and avoid disturbing the sheep for the next few weeks and until given the all clear. Farmers have already taken a big hit with the recent unexpected cold snap, so let's all try to avoid exacerbating things - it is for only a few weeks after all.
- SHPF Newsletter: See the all-new SHPF Newsletter with stories, news and articles of interest from around Scotland. This is planned to be issued quarterly. Contact SHPF for more details.
.
- Tinto Works: A big thanks to all those who turned up for the recent Tinto Works party. It was a successful day with lots of tree felling around the talker plus some drain clearance and access work. There is still plenty work to be done, so watch out for the next works day.
- Club T-Shirts:
The AGM may be over, but you can still buy your LLSC Club T-shirt. With plenty of sizes and funky colours available, and all funds going to the club, you just can't say no. Only £10 each and guaranteed to get you to cloudbase!

Sites Guide
The club Sites
Guide provides a list of available sites by wind direction (or wind
directions by site) along with the usual general site info. This is now
in the process of being revised and incorporated into the new website with
the addition of more sites to the guide. Watch out for the new version
when it becomes available.
About LLSCLanarkshire and Lothian Soaring Club promotes safe
flying for paragliders and hangliders in Scotland, and in particular
around Glasgow and Edinburgh. Safety comes with experience, and all pilots
are encouraged to improve their skills and knowledge through regular club
activities including training and coaching sessions.
The club hosts
a national forum for all Scottish pilots and those
interested in free flying in Scotland.
Flying in ScotlandScotland is a beautiful country to fly in with
surprisingly many different options for such a small area. The current
Scottish distance record for a paraglider is 126km, and was cut short due
to running out of land! As a whole, there are very few airspace
restrictions across the country, with the exception of the Central Belt
between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Please ensure you are fully aware of any
agreements and potential restrictions in force before you
fly.
LLSC is an active member in the Scottish Hangliding and
Paragliding Federation (SHPF). |
