Into 2009 and the extended run of high pressure conditions continues, at least for a few more days. Winds will be predominantly westerly through the week, blowing stronger further to the north of Scotland, and with the possibility of some rain or even snow midweek. Then it looks like all change for the weekend as we return to strong winds and rain as the low pressure once more takes hold.
Most days this week could well be flyable, although winds on Tuesday now look too strong and Thursday could also have a significant wind gradient, though it should remain clear. Wednesday and Friday look the best options, with light to moderate W winds, backing to SW on Friday. However, the fronts passing over during Wednesday may yet spoil the day but Friday should be clear and bright.
The lows to the NW finally push into Scotland by Saturday, bringing stronger winds and signalling the arrival of wetter conditions, and spoiling any hopes of weekend flying.
LAST WEEK'S REPORTS
Practically every day last week was flyable, except New Year's Day which proved to be just too strong. Saturday 3rd Jan saw the first big gathering of pilots for 2009, with some very good flying at Broughton.
