Learning to Fly
If you are interested in learning to paraglide or hanglide you need to become a qualified pilot before you can fly with the club. In the UK free flying is administered by the British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association, the Lanarkshire and Lothian Soaring Club is a BHPA registered club.
To qualify you need to learn at a BHPA accredited school. There are 2 active schools in central Scotland, please contact either Cloudbusters (Tinto area) or Flying Fever (Arran). The BHPA also maintains a full list of registered schools where you can learn to fly. Typically the schools will let you go on a fun day to try out the sport and if you want to take it further you can train for your Elementary Pilot (EP) and Club Pilot (CP) qualifications. Most of the training is practical and done on the hill and there is also an exam at the end of each course, every pilot progresses at their own pace. You are welcome to join the club here while you are training (but to fly with the club you will need to have passed your CP). There are also some useful resources for learners in our Coaching page.
